SUCCESS ON THE TESTRECIPE FOR DISASTER

1. Subject Preparation is thorough (this will matter only to the tune of 50%). This means

  • If you are given enough time, you wont go wrong in even one question
  • You will be sure of your right answer even before checking the key
1. Preparation is gimmicky.
2. Thorough Mental Preparation (Remaining 50% contributor to your success) 2. Lack of three vital ingredients: Concentration, Mental Toughness, and Steady nerves
3. Pattern Based Study 3. Study just to get the answer correct
4. Zero errors on RC under time pressure4. RC makes you panic
5. Studying the weakest areas the most5. Studying the strongest areas more often
6. Pace: finishing the test is the most important6. Slow pace, so towards the test you tend to have too many wrong answers in a row.
7. Try not to have more than one wrong answers in a row 7. =2 wrong answers in a row.
8. Quality over quantity. A lot of analysis and deliberation on each question8. Mindless solving of hundreds of questions
9. Studying the Right Content9. Studying Irrelevant Content
10. Doing a few four-hour long simulated CATs (but not too many)10. Avoiding four-hour long simulations

HOW ARE WE REALLY DIFFERENT?

  • Other GMAT-prep companies in the country offer training only in 500-550 level rangebe it competence, content, class, candor, or convictiontheir training falls short of the rigor required for 99th percentile scores.
  • We believe that The Official Guides cater to 500-550 level (junk); despite the fact that the OGs are irrelevant when it comes to 99th percentile scores (760-800 score range), instructors at other institutes treat them as the Holy Grail (the be all and end all) of GMAT-Preps; the results are disastrous.
  • We strongly believe that the GMAT should NOT be considered an Adaptive Test but rather a linear test. A million problems can be kissed away with just a small mindset-shift.
  • We strongly believe that there are no time-sucker questions on the GMAT, only suckers who fall for them. If you have the right approach, every problem on the real-GMAT can be solved in less than 90 seconds. If you take more than 90 seconds on a particular problem, the question is not tough; your approach is definitely WRONG.
  • A lot of students are made to believe that studying for the GMAT means spending 90% of their preparation time on Sentence Correction (SC) nothing could be a bigger disservice to yourself. SC is extremely crucial, but not at the cost of Reading Comprehension (RC).
  • The most crucial area for the GMAT is RC, which is given the least attention by students and faculty alike. If your RC accuracy is not near 100% under time constraints in the 4th hour on the test (when your concentration is likely to be at its weakest), you will not cross the coveted 700 mark. RC is the most crucial test area woefully neglected by everyone.
  • If you want a high score, you have to make sure you dont make consecutive mistakes. Again, RC becomes the most crucial area; if you dont do well on a specific passage, you are likely to get 3-4 consecutive wrong answers.
  • As per GMAC, three consecutive mistakes anywhere on the test can pull your current score down by 80-100 points. The position of the questions doesnt matter.
  • At Top-One-Percent, you get to know the Test-Makers perspective as opposed to the Test-Takers perspective. Every difficult problem on the real GMAT (at the highest level) is made in such a way that wrong answers seem more attractive than the right answer. The test-makers know exactly how an average human brain thinks and falls for traps. Training for such traps constitutes more than 50% of our training.
  • We strongly believe that the GMAT is not a test of Math or English; it is a test of reading and reasoning. Quite often, people who are exceptionally good at English dont manage a high Verbal Score and people who are exceptionally good at Math fail miserably on the Quant Section.
  • Ours is a NO-FLUFF-ALL-STUFF course.
    • You will not find that out of the 5000 pages of material given to you, only 500 pages are worth reading.
    • If you attend a 3-hour class, you will find value in each of the 180 minutes. You will not feel that more than 150 minutes were spent discussing something that you could have managed yourself / that you knew in advance / that didnt add any value.
  • We wouldnt want to hear any excuses. If you come to the classes unprepared or without finishing your homework, you will have an extremely frustrating experience. BUT if you are the serious GMAT contender, you cant find a better course anywhere on this planet.
  • Special copyrighted techniques for each of the subject areas: OCTAVE (RC), PRIMEX (SC), ACT (CR), ACED (DS), and LINGO (PS). No other institute in the world has such effective strategies to crack each of the test areas.
  • The trainer who has gone out there and done it in the middle at the highest level (three 99th percentile scores). Learn from those who have seen it all and done it all.
  • Each of the GMAT areas will be covered in detail Verbal: Reading Comprehension (RC), Sentence Correction (SC), Critical Reasoning (CR); Quantitative: Data Sufficiency (DS), Problem Solving (PS), Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA - Analysis of an Argument), and Integrated Reasoning (IR) - in detail.
  • Every batch will be a weekend batch demanding 4 months of serious dedication from your side. For the first 8 weeks, you will have classes every weekend for 6 hours (3 hours on Sat and 3 hours on Sun). Each of these classes will be homework driven. We focus exclusively on top scores the 99th percentile range (760-800 range). To this effect, our classes demand an unparalleled seriousness from your side. Our classes are very intensive and rigorous and demand an effort of at least 20 hours per week (on average, at least 3 hours per day, assuming you are working). If you are not working (or are on a break), we want you to put in 8-10 hours every day.
  • After your classes are over: You will need to follow an assisted-self-study-plan to reach the level of finesse and perfection required for a 99th percentile score. We will share this plan with the material once your classes are over. This takes 45-60 days assuming you study 3 hours each day.
  • You will get all the content / material: Basic and Advanced Concepts including concept books, classroom content - including the latest 750-800 level questions, elementary practice, advanced practice, 700-800 level question bank, latest collection of questions from the real GMAT, and Computer based Test Series etc. In addition our own content, you will get all the usual content: the Official Guides, and any other content available anywhere in the world. All the content related to the GMAT around the world will be extended to you in soft copy. There is not a single resource on the GMAT that you will not have access to.
  • You will get all kinds of personal support: counseling, doubt-clearing, repeat classes, backup for missed classes, and admission counseling (B-School Admissions Process Guidance). The validity of the classroom program is 4 months from the date of joining.
  • An absolute guarantee that the GMAT will not test you on anything outside of the course content covered here. Each type of question on your test will have been covered in detail. Even at the highest level (99th percentile), not even one question will seem alien to you (if you do all the content as advised).
  • Most important: the right mental training for the right execution ... the most critical part of this training.
  • You will get all material (Concepts, Theory, Practice, Test Series, Extra Help etc.) from our side. You are not supposed to refer to anything else at all.
  • If you need some special material (such as help from absolute basics in Math or Grammar or some challenging practice content in any area), please ask us. We will provide you with all such content. Dont study anything else at all.
  • Please solve our TOP-GMAT Challenge (30 questions) on our website www.top-one-percent.com before you come for our classes.
  • Also, please do visit our website www.top-one-percent.com and check everything to know more about us.

EXPECTATIONS FROM YOU

  • Results come only when you put in the effort. A 610 student also sits in the same classroom in which a 780 student sits. So the difference is not in instruction / service quality. The difference is clearly in the efforts put in by a student. Our training program works only if you work. No MAGIC MANTRAS You have to put in a lot of hard work.
  • We are committed to a =760 score for you. ARE YOU COMMITTED ENOUGH? If your level of commitment is for a 500 score, there is going to be only frustration.
  • Keep pace with the classes no backlogs.
  • The course is homework-driven. Do all homework in time there is no exception to this condition.
  • Understand the nature of the test and study accordingly, e.g., studying on the computer screen is better than studying on paper.
  • Do all the material as and when suggested. Dont read any extra material unless suggested by us.

THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

  • You are not serious about your efforts OR if you look for a quick-fix.
  • You dont want to do the homework before the classes. There is no excuse for not finishing the homework we wouldnt want to hear any excuses: Work pressure, project, deadline, submission, release, travel, etc. PLEASE DONT JOIN if you are not ready to do the requisite homework.
  • You are addicted to studying on paper. As per the exam requirement, you have to study on a computer.

CORE VALUES!

  • Class: We are the best-in-classexcellence defines us! Be assured of an absolutely world-class training here. Every faculty member here (or ever joining us in future) must have scored a 99th percentile score on the real GMAT. NOBODY ELSEthis is a guaranteeNOBODY ELSE can satisfy this requirement anywhere else in India.
  • Candor: No false hopesyour results are commensurate with your efforts. Our efforts are the same for each student. If you dont put in the effort, we cannot do anything for you.
  • Commitment: There is only one objectiveto help you improve your score on the GMATwe always go that extra mile. The same is expected of yoube absolutely committeddo whatever is asked of you.
  • Content: One of the biggest differentiators here is the CONTENTwe have handpicked all the latest, most relevant, and absolutely cutting-edge contentthe most important ingredient in your success. Make sure you finish all that is asked of you.
  • Conviction: We know for a fact that our methods work phenomenally well but that for a non-serious student, we are not the right training partners.

GMAT SUCCESS INGREDIENTS

  • Conviction the belief that you can get a 99th percentile score check this BELIEF CHANGE video that shows how, on the very first day, the students were driven to aim for a 99th percentile check it here
  • Commitment fight to the finish no matter what dont leave it in between
  • Consistency daily input rather than bouts / bursts of preparation
  • Concept mastery to such an extent that practicing further doesnt improve you to the extent that you know for sure that you are right before checking the answer to the extent that if you have enough time, you will NOT get even one answer wrong
  • Content mastery not mindless finishing
    • Practice with the right content
    • No mindless practice practice / fix / practice / fix / practice / fix the ideal pattern
    • No irrelevant content
    • Test makers perspective (psychometrician how to make the wrong choice seem more attractive than the right choice) / Traps
    • Pattern based preparation
    • Quality over quantity. A lot of analysis and deliberation on each question
    • Must not check the solution to any problem unless you completely give up. When you believe: Even if I have one more hour to solve this question, I wont be able to solve it. then it is the right time to refer to the solutions.
    • The idea is to fix your weaknesses, not celebrate your strengths

GMAT SPECIFICS

  • Techniques / Approaches OCTAVE / ACT / ANT / PRIME / LINGO / ACED
    • Get the answer in less than 90 seconds
    • Knowing that you are right versus being right but not being sure.
  • Stamina to sit for four hours at absolutely peak-concentration level. (Remember the best-concentration time of your life. You have to repeat that occasion in terms of concentration).
    • Concentration Four-hour RC / CR practice with LSAT content under strict time-limits
  • Pace / Pacing
    • Consecutive mistakes
    • RC being more important (ensure 100% accuracy on RC, no matter what)
    • Pacing charts
      • Quant (10Q done, 55 minutes left / 20Q done, 35 minutes left / 30Q done, 15 minutes left for the last 7 questions, you must have more than 14 minutes remaining).
      • Verbal (10Q done, 58 minutes left / 20Q done, 41 minutes left / 30Q done, 24 minutes left for the last 11 questions, you must have more than 22 minutes remaining).
    • Finishing the test severe penalty for not finishing
  • Mental toughness
    • Exit strategy maximum 2 minutes per question

EXECUTION

  • Adaptive nature of the test it is a disaster if it keeps playing on your mind
  • Nerves if you are the one who freaks out at the thought of an aptitude test, you need to train your mind.
  • No guessing on the level of a question (I wonder whether it is a 500 level or a 750 level question? is disastrous thinking) / No guessing whether a question is experimental or real
  • Mind-game the exam is out to play a serious mind-game with you. It is your job to defeat its intention.
  • Ensure good sleep the night before the test
  • Ensure that your routine / habits are not disrupted
